Yoojin Ko, flute and saxophone player. Yoojin reinvent her korean musical tradition with a modern jazz language.
After graduating in June 2005, classical flute at Hanyang University in Seoul (South Korea), she started to interesting with jazz music. In 2008 Yoojin Ko decided to travel Europe to meet and play with great musicians. Somewhere jazz music was booming. In 2012, 2014 she graduated bachelor and master diploma in jazz flute at the Royal Conservatory in The Hague (Netherlands).
Throughout her youth she had a rich musical career in Korea, Japan and China, with different orchestras and classic ensembles.
As a jazz musician, she performed with Jorge Pardo, Gwilym Simcock, Rudresh Mahanthappa and Norma Winstone in the J. Ruocco´s Big Band, and in the koncon´s Big Band conducted by Ilja Reijngoud. Also she has collaborated with different projects and musicians like Ramon Prats, Marc Cuevas, Xavi Torres, Julian Sanches, Lee Ji Yun jazz quartet, 66whales, The Espluméor Chamber Ensemble, Emilio Parrilla acoustic band, Syo’ Fang octet, Naftule, Boris Mogilevski band, A.J quintet, Sewoon Kim jazz chamber and etc.

She has performed in different festivals, jazz clubs and theater in Europe, America and Asia: North Sea Jazz Festival, Taichung Jazz Festival, Yokohama Jazz Promenade, Jeonju Sori Festival, Delft Jazz Festival, Rotterdam international jazz festival, Veermeeer jazz festval, Keep an eye, Amsterdam Bimhuis, So whats next?, Live jazzy festival, Festival International Cervantino, etc.
As a educator, she teached workshop in National School Taichung in Taiwan, Cursos internacionales de interpretacion Eduardo del Pueyo in Spain. She got first prize PAD 2015 to the best original composition for dance show as a composer. Also nominated PAD 2019 award to the best original composition. Winner best composition pilot tv program ‘That's what I want to know!’ 2020 in Korea. |
